Make sure to sign up to our expression of interest form for future screenings both to be notified when bookings open and so wee can show to large the demand for these are and how crucial it is to extend this offering!
Since its formation in 1995, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) has been working to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD).
CRY's mission to prevent young sudden cardiac deaths by promoting awareness, conducting screenings, and supporting affected families. The CRY screening programme has tested more than 300,000.
An Electrocardiogram (ECG) looks at the electrical conduction pathways around the heart. Small stickers known as electrodes are placed on the patients chest and the wires connect to an ECG machine whilst you lie still. A printout of the heart’s electrical activity is obtained for evaluation by the cardiologist. This test is painless, non-invasive and takes only a few minutes to perform.
If required you might alos be given an Echo ted. Echocardiogram (Echo) is an ultrasound test which looks at the structure of the heart. From the information provided on screen, measurements are taken which give a guide to heart muscle thickness and the size of the chambers of the heart. This test is non-invasive and painless; and it takes approximately 20 minutes to perform.
"I was screening during October screenings. The process of being screened was so much faster and easier than I expected! The ECG itself too what felt like 2 minuets and was totally painfree."
"After further testing with CRY on the day, I was refered for further investigations. Fortunately these cambe out all clear despite inital signs of abnormality"
"I feel so much more confident doing exercise now in the knowledge that these tested have been taken seriously."
In our first screenings on the 15th and 16th of October we screened 209 people across two days at the University of Cambridge Sports Center. We had such an incredible team from CRY lead by our hero Tony and were joined by BBC News, Greatest Hits Radio and the University Alumni deparment for interviews. Incredible CPR training sessions were organised in contingence with our Screenings. Thank you so much to everyone who joined us and contributed to such a successful first two days of screening!
Our screenings are very generously's hosted by the University of Camrbidge Sports Centre, located in West Cambridge, only a 10 minuet cycle form Central Cambridge. We are so greatful for all the support for the Cmabridge Sports gives us!
